During Ceremony

After the commencement address, it’s time for the hooding ceremony. Staff members will be on hand to guide graduates and ensure everything runs smoothly.

  • Graduates will line up one row at a time.
  • Before going on stage, a staff member will collect your place card(s).
  • When your name is called:
    • Walk to the Dean of Graduate Studies and Program Coordinator, and hand your hood to the Program Coordinator.
    • Stand between the Dean and Program Coordinator, facing the audience, to be formally hooded. A professional photographer will capture this moment.
    • Continue across the stage to the President. As you reach out to shake hands, please face the audience for a second photo.
    • After leaving the stage, you will receive your diploma cover and a final photo will be taken holding it.
  • A staff member will then guide you back to your seat.

After the Ceremony:

  • The platform party will exit first, followed by faculty members.
  • Graduates will be directed to leave one row at a time.
  • Family, friends, and guests should remain seated until all graduates have exited.
  • Once you leave the gym, staff members will give each graduate a gift.
